TAMAKWA BROCHURE 2008 UPDATE

ACTIVITY ADDITIONS

  • A climbing wall and two new elements on our Ropes Adventure Course. The additions bring greater challenge and diversity to the existing and already popular elements. We've also added two new overhanging additions to the climbing wall for enhanced difficulty.
  • Woodworking, including paddle making, wood sculpture, and other projects consistent with the Algonquin environment, located in its own facility.
  • A new Clay Art studio which shares its building with the wood shop.
  • Fully renovated ball field, complete with professional fence, dugouts and bleachers. Our new field now accommodates regulation baseball as well as softball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee and other sporting events.
  • A Voyageur “War” Canoe. It's a 36-foot long, 22-passenger replica of the vessel made famous by explorers and fur traders on the Great Lakes. At camp it's great for cabin outings and team-oriented regattas.
  • Shuffleboard has made a popular return after many years absence from our Landsports program.

FACILITY ADDITIONS

  • “The Beachers” (our lakeside amphitheatre with campfire pit).
  • Water Trampoline.
  • Sail boats (including a Hobie Cat, additional JY 15 racing boats and Optimist boats for younger campers).
  • Archery Range.
  • Windsurfers and Kayaks.
  • 50-seat passenger barge, named “Marge” (great for transportation & late-night star-gazing).
  • Many new & renovated boys & girls camper cabins
  • Two boys' “Biffies” (communal latrine): one brand new and one totally renovated.
  • “The Loft” (our video room for instructional videos and special events).
  • Three campfire rings and “The Lookout”, our deck in girls' camp overlooking South Tea Lake.
  • NEW Medical Complex in 2005 serving as camp physician's residence, nurses' residence, infirmary and clinic.
  • NEW Pavilion for 2006 serving as an additional covered meeting area equipped with a lit stage, cooking area and plenty of seating that can be used for special events, meetings, barbeques and much more.
